About

Children’s Hearing Services is a specialist private hearing clinic dedicated to assessing the hearing of children from age 10 months to age 18. The practice has been running since 2020 and has helped hundreds of families who have had concerns about their child’s hearing or speech development. Not all families who have attended the service have been concerned about hearing difficulties. Perhaps they have been referred by Health Visitors or Speech and Language Therapists. Many parents have been shocked to find their child has hearing difficulties which has resulted in speech delay or behavioural issues.

At Children’s Hearing Services we can accurately assess hearing, provide information to families regarding treatment for various types of deafness, and offer advice to nurseries and schools when children are struggling to hear in class. We have close links with ENT surgeons at Spire Bristol and Nuffield Cardiff and for very young children we refer to Midland Health in Birmingham. We also have links to Speech and Language Therapists across South Wales.

Children’s Hearing Test 10 months – 2 years

We test children’s hearing from 10 months old. It is important to identify hearing problems as early as possible in babies and children because any issues can affect their speech and language development, social skills and education as they get older.

Children’s Hearing Test 5 Years+

It is important to continue to have your child’s hearing tested even after they have started school to ensure any hearing issues are identified before impacting on their development. As your child gets older you might notice certain behaviours that could be a sign of a hearing problem.

What we do

All assessments are carried out by Shelley Morris who is Chief Paediatric Audiologist for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, with more than 30 years’ experience testing children’s hearing. She is fully registered with AHCS and BAA. Shelley has a wide range of test methods for all children. She is very experienced at testing children who may not be developing typically and may need specialist methods for testing.

Our clinic offers weekend appointments for busy families ensuring that your child doesn’t miss out on any schooling and we offer a non-clinical, child friendly environment. Which suits many children who are nervous about hospital appointments.

Testimonials

I brought my son to see Shelley as his teacher was concerned about his lack of attention in school. She found he had mild hearing loss, but it was impacting on how well he could hear in a noisy classroom. So glad we saw Shelley when we did!

Father

Our toddler was delayed with his talking. He missed the beginning or end of words, and the health visitor suggested getting a hearing test. Shelley was excellent will Ollie. He was upset when we arrived but by the time the testing was over he did not want to leave!

Mum of Ollie

My daughter was struggling with reading and spelling, and her confidence was very low compared to her friends. Her glue ear is better now but the intervention and understanding of her condition made a huge difference for her.

James S

Father

We had our baby’s hearing tested because he wasn’t responding to his name. We came away with the knowledge that his hearing was fine, but his listening was not typical. Highly recommend if you have concerns about your baby’s development.

Our GP put in a referral to audiology only to be told that the NHS waiting times were 7 months. We rang Children’s Hearing Services on Tuesday and were seen on Saturday of the same week.

I can highly recommend Shelley Morris. We went to see Shelley on the back of two failed school hearing tests. Neither my son, myself or my husband had noticed any problems with his hearing. Shelley was brilliant with him.
